Recently I was able to conduct an interview with Jimmy Redmond, the game-breaking WR from McNeese State. Redmond, who transferred to McNeese from Ohio State, is one of the lesser known receivers in the draft. He's got an enormous amount of talent and potenial. At 6'0", 195 and clocking at a 4.33 in the 40 yard dash, Redmond would be a very nice addition to any NFL team looking for a receiver with big play ability later in the draft. Below is some info on Jimmy, followed by our interview.

Name: Jimmy Redmond School: McNeese State Position: WR Height: 6'0" Weight: 195 40 Time: 4.33 Draft Status: 6th or 7th round projection My View: Jimmy is a very gifted young man who's just waiting for his opportunity to shine. He's got all of the pysical tools needed to be a solid NFL receiver. He's got good hands and excellent speed. He only caught just over 60 balls while at McNeese, but this kid's potential is endless. INTERVIEW: Q: What kind of person will an NFL team be getting when the draft you? J.R.: I just love the game of football period. I'm a winner, a competitor, I'm very coachable and I'm always looking to get better. Off the field, I'm just a laid back, quite guy. Q: What have you heard about your draft status? J.R.: I've heard I could go anywhere from the 5th round, to going undrafted. Q: What are your plans after your football career is over? J.R.: I'd like to get into real estate or mortgage banking at some point down the road. Q: What are your three playing strengths? J.R.: I'd have to say my explosiveness, my athletic ability, and my hands. Q: Do you have any weaknesses that you're looking to improve on? J.R.: I want to get crisper in my route running. I feel I run good routes, but I want them to be perfect on every down. Q: Are you mentally ready for the NFL? J.R.: I believe I am. I think I'm as ready now as I ever will be. I'm a strong person. I believe I can do anything I put my mind to. I'm ready for whatever happens in the months ahead. I can handle it. Q: Are you physically ready as well? J.R.: Yes indeed! I think my physical gifts prove that I'm ready for the NFL. I can still improve in some areas, but there's always going to be room for improvement. I just want to be the best I can be. Q: What are you doing to stay focused? J.R.: I workout and run everyday. I also run routes 3-4 times a week. I'm just looking to get better every day. The determination to become a better receiver keeps me focused. Q: Do you feel because you played at McNeese St. that you've been overlooked? J.R.: Yes I do, but that's the nature of the beast when you don't play major college football. I hope people notice my skills and give me a shot. I know once I get there, I'll impress and prove that I belong. I started my career at Ohio St. I know how to play with the big boys. Q: Why did you transfer from Ohio St.? J.R.: I was fighting injuries and I felt I needed a change of scenery. I think it has worked out for the best. I think if I was still at OSU, I'd be a top draft pick. Q: What are your goals for your rookie season? J.R.: I just want to come in and make a contribution where ever I can. If that's me just playing special teams, that's OK. I know I have the skills to play receiver. I just want to get some playing time. Q: What are your long term career goals? J.R.: I want to become the best receiver I can be. I think the sky's the limit. I just nees to go out and play hard and I'll get my shot. Q: What teams have shown the most interest thus far? J.R.: Seattle, Green Bay, Miami, Jacksonville, Oakland, Minnesota, and Kansas City appear to be interested. Q: What team did you grow up cheering for? J.R.: The Chiefs. Kansas City is my hometown. I'd love to go back and play for them. I also like Miami and Jacksonville too. M.G.: Thanks for your time Jimmy! Good Luck!!! J.R.: Thanks Matt! I appreciate it.
