Kevin Kasper

Recently I was able to interview Kevin Kasper the wide receiver from Iowa. Kasper is riding the momentum of an outstanding performance at the combine last month where he ran a 4.43/40 and had a 43" vertical jump. Kevin was labeled a 'possession' receiver while at Iowa, but he showed at Indy that he has the ability to stretch the field. Below is some info on Kevin, followed by our interview.

Name: Kevin Kasper

School: Iowa

Position: WR

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 199

40 Time: 4.43

Draft Status: 3rd-4th round projection

My View: Kevin is a very easy going, intelligent, and talented young man. He's got the size/speed combo to make an impact in the NFL early on. He's got good hands, body control, and he has game breaking speed. Labeled as a possession receiver while at Iowa, Kasper will be used to stretch the field in the NFL as a third receiver and eventually move into a starting role in the right situation.

INTERVIEW:

Q: What kind of person will an NFL team be getting when they draft you?

K.K.: They'll get a guy who's VERY intense, wiling to do anything it takes to help the team win, and a proven leader. Off the field, I just do my own thing. I love boxing, playing pool, ping pong, and hanging with buddies. If it's sports related, I like it.

Q: What have you heard about your draft status?

K.K.: I've heard that since my combine workout, I'm probably a 3rd round pick.

Q: What do you want to do after football is over?

K.K.: I just want to be happy. Have a family to love and support and just go from there. I'd like to do something football related like coach or broadcast, maybe even put my marketing degree to use.

Q: What are your three playing strengths?

K.K.: I'd have to say my hands, my character, and my aggresiveness. I live and die football.

Q: Do you have any weaknesses that you want to improve on?

K.K.: I'm a perfectionist, and I feel there is always room to grow on the football field. I want to learn as much as I can so I can be one of the best.

Q: Do you feel you're mentally ready for the NFL?

K.K.: No doubt in my mind. The combine proved that I was mentally and physically ready. I had the proper mindset and I executed. I'm just a mentally strong person. I can handle it.

Q: Physically ready as well?

K.K.: Yes. I've been wanting this for so long now. There's nothing that will stop me from reaching my goals. I'm a big, physical, fast receiver who can catch the ball. I think I have it all.

Q: What are you doing to stay focused?

K.K.: I just do my running and lifting. I run routes on a daily basis and watch film on guys that play WR in the NFL so I can get better and learn as much as possible.

Q: Do you feel you've been somewhat overlooked at the WR position?

K.K.: I feel I have been a bit, yes. Before I went to the combine, I was labeled as a possesion receiver. I knew what I could do, I just had to prove it to the scouts and everyone else. I was utilized at Iowa as a possession type receiver, but I can stretch the field.

Q: What was the combine like for you?

K.K.: It was great man. I enjoyed the atmosphere. I just went there and had fun, but made sure that when it was my time to test, I was going to shine. The scouts and coaches were really easy to talk to, so it was an awesome experience.

Q: Can you be an impact player in your rookie season?

K.K.: Yes. My goal is to help my team win. I'll be the 3rd WR, I'll start, I'll play special teams, I'll play anywhere and do anything. I feel confident in my skills that I can come in and really help my team win.

Q: What are you career goals?

K.K.: I want to have a successful, long career like Cris Carter. I want to be the do-it-all type WR he is. I actually model my game after him. He's an excellent receiver and he's taught me alot from just watching him.

Q: What teams have shown the most interest in you?

K.K.: Well, 17 teams were at Iowa's pro day, but the teams that have shown the most interest have been Washington, Kansas City, Arizona, and St. Louis. Just because they show interest doesn't mean they'll draft me. I just don't know what's going to happen, but I'm ready for it.

Q: Is there an NFL team that you've always wanted to play for?

K.K.: I grew up a Bears fan because Walter Payton was my idol as a kid. I don't really care where I play though, as long I get a legit shot.

M.G.: Thanks for your time Kevin! I had a good time.

K.K.: Thanks for the opportunity Matt! Take Care.

I'd like to thank Kevin for taking the time to answer my questions. I'd also like to thank Kevin's bother Ed and Rob 'Boomer' Rang of Boomer's NFL Draft for making the interview possible. Good Luck in the NFL Kasper!!!
