Bobby Newcombe

Recently I was able to conduct an interview with Nebraska wide receiver, Bobby Newcombe. Newcombe, who came to Nebraska as a QB, has made his name for his receiving skills. At the Senior Bowl, Bobby showed is athletic ability, hands, and body control to the NFL scouts. He's anatural athlete with some upside potential. Look for him to be a steal in the 3rd round. Below is some info on Bobby, followed by our interview.

Name: Bobby Newcombe

School: Nebraska

Position: WR

Height: 5'10"

Weight: 194

40 Time: 4.45

Draft Status: 3rd round selection

My View: Bobby is a very intelligent, well mannered, gifted young man. With his outstanding athletic ability and body control, Bobby can come in and be a solid third WR and eventually blossom into a starter. He's still very raw at the position, but the potential for growth is there. Consider him a steal in the third round, if he's available.

INTERVIEW:

Q: What kind of person will an NFL team be getting when they draft you?

B.N.: They'll be getting a hard worker who never gives up and that gives 11-% all the time. I'm a proven winner, a great all-around athlete, and I put a ton of time and effort into preperation.

Q: What have you heard about your draft status?

B.N.: I've heard anywhere from the 2nd round to the 4th round.

Q: What are your plans after your football career is over?

B.N.: I want to be in football. A coach, a scout, anything. I love this game. I want to be able to share my knowledge with the younger people. It's all about giving back.

Q: What are your three playing strengths?

B.N.: I'd have to say my speed, my athletecism, and stride length.

Q: What about weaknesses in your game?

B.N.: I'd like to improve on my all-around game. I've only played receiver for a 2 full years. I have alot to learn about the position.

Q: Do you feel you're mentally ready for the NFL?

B.N.: I think I'm ready. I've always been mentally tough, but I know the NFL is another level. I feel that I've prepared myself for this and now I'm ready to get things started.

Q: Are you physically ready as well?

B.N.: Without a doubt. My style of play is NFL material. I'm a quick, fast, heady receiver who runs good routes and I have the potential to make a big play everytime I touch the ball.

Q: What are you doing to prepare yourself for the changes you're about to be faced with?

B.N.: I just continue to work out and stay focused on what's at stake. I'm getting married soon and I'll be moving so I'm just trying to get ready for everything at once. I know the NFL is a much faster game, but I'll watch and learn from the veteran players because they've seen it all.

Q: Do you think you've been overlooked by NFL scouts?

B.N.: Yes I do. I KNOW I've been overlooked. I felt I was being held bak at Nebraska. I didn't get a real opportunity to show off my true skills. I've got so much to offer if I can just get a legit shot. I'm just ready to show people what I'm all about.

Q: Do you feel you can be an impact player in your rookie season?

B.N.: Yes, I think I can make an impact. I am so excited about the opportunity to play professional football. I just want to play. I'll be the return man, the third receiver, anything. I've been held back for too long. I'm ready to just BLOW UP!!!

Q: What was the Senior Bowl like for you?

B.N.: It was a great opportunity for me to showcase my skills. I just let loose and had fun on the football field. It was also good because I was able to learn from the NFL coaches and that was VERY important for me.

Q: What teams showed the most interest?

B.N.: I'm not sure who had the most interest, but about 20 teams interviewed and talked to me after the practices. It made me feel like they wanted me. It was a good feeling.

Q: Is there a particular team that you'd like to play for?

B.N.: Not really. I just want to go somewhere and be able to fit into their scheme.

I'd like to thank Bobby Newcombe for spending the time answering my questions. He's a great kid with a bright future ahead of him. Good Luck in the NFL Bobby!!!
